Coiled Coils

Predict protein coiled coil regions

Requires Geneious 4.6+

  • Open Source
Compare your sequence to a database of known parallel two-stranded coiled-coils and derive a similarity score. By comparing this score to the distribution of scores in globular and coiled-coil proteins, you can then calculate the probability that the sequence will adopt a coiled-coil conformation.

Install the plugin by downloading the gplugin file and dragging it in to Geneious or use the plugin manager in Geneious (under Tools - Plugins in the menu).

Once installed, select a protein sequence and the Coiled Coils graph will appear. The graph has three lines corresponding to different sliding window sizes: Green = 14, Blue = 21, Red = 28. Options are available on the Graphs tab of the controls to the right of the Sequence view.

1.1.1 (04 Dec 2009) – Download

– Now gives identical results to coils2
– Fix issue with sequences with fewer than 28 residues
